The Gift of Giving

Giving is worth more than receiving. I go to a pretty neat church in Providence, RI filled with many creative minds and people who want to make an eternal impact in the city of Providence and the world.  On Saturday, I had the opportunity to participate in a Christmas celebration at my church, called Christmas Encounter.

Our pastor had a vision to bless 40 needy families in our community this Christmas. He didn’t just want to donate a few “things” that we would “think” a needy family would want. Instead, families were interviewed to see what was on their kids wish lists and we worked from their. Yes, even UGGs were purchased for the teenagers!
On Friday night my community of church friends organized a clothing shop, packed Christmas bags with special gifts for the kids and families, wrote Christmas cards with prayers to the moms, designed gift card envelopes, hung lights, and decorated the church.
Saturday came and the invited families started pouring in through the church. It was absolutely incredible! Pictures cannot illustrate the beauty of this day. I helped serve at the prize wheel and kids games section while families were brought around and provided with haircuts, make up, professional photographs, bolt coffee, a sit down dinner prepared by Johnson and Wales culinary chefs, lots of fun games, and love. Everyone in the room that was overwhelmingly filled with joy.
Here is the marvelous (#MIMM) Christmas Encounter recap video:
A bunch of people coming together to make something beautiful.  How marvelous is that? It is my prayer that this will be the beginning of a beautiful year for these families.
Merry Christmas!
